I'm posting this a day late, as yesterday was our one year anniversary of being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
The first week of 2012...a time for making New Year's resolutions. I often find I've compiled a long list of things I'd like to do, to be, to seek, only to crumple up my list by the end of the month...maybe as far along as mid-February, if I'm lucky.
But it seems 2011 really kicked me in the pants, and I'm just grateful to be firmly planted here, in this new year. There sure are a lot of things I'd like to do and be and seek, but I think, this year, I'll let them unfold like little gifts as they arrive.
This week, we had a lot of fun outdoors...
Our family enjoyed a New Year's Day skating at the local, outdoor rink.
Forrest and Sunshine are spending a lot of time outside in the kitchen garden building "Snowflake Village". Each of them has a house with lanes meandering in between. They built one for Huckley, too. There are grand plans for this little village...each home will have windows, and bookshelves, and chairs, and candles. So far, the walls are 6 inches tall and we are awaiting more fresh snow to continue.
My little dishwasher. *He loves to play with the suds...until he gets so wet that he shrieks to be changed. And then, back again to the suds.* (Repeat from * to *).
I made Forrest and Sunshine new sewing cards to add to their dog-eared collection. They will sit for long periods of time, stitching "up from the earth, up to the sky". Sunshine is crazy for unicorns right now, and Forrest wanted knights.
A third child in one of my first knitted projects. I made these overalls for Forrest. They are so heavy as I used three strands of alpaca wool. I have learned so much about knitting since then, five years ago. It makes me so happy to see the children wearing, and liking to wear, their mama-mades.
And wee little Huckley is now one and a half years old!!! We celebrated his half-birthday with some simple decorations, a special cookie after dinner, and some lovely Huckley activities...trucks, books, racing about! I was inspired by Melanie celebrating her children's half-birthdays, and it nicely bookends yesterday's Diagnosis Day with Sunshine's half-birthday on Sunday. And these three little ones love to celebrate!
Happy Weekend to all of you...enjoy the weather, whatever it may bring!

Oh My Gosh, those over alls, I might book myself a flight, and sneak to your house and nick them, they are ADORABLE! Do you have a pattern for them. Oh gosh I want a pair for Joa! I love the pixie hat also, as usual ;-) Sunshines skates are really cool, we only skated once or twice as kids on a frozed sewage pit with literarly antique skates. but this looks like great fun. much love and I hope that 2012 is much kinder to you all, you are a very strong and very inspirational woman! x x

Dear Jules, This was so fun for me to see- some of these photos are from that day we chatted- the skating, the half birthday!
And of course I know all about the sink play. ..
Love and hugs! Mel

The overalls are super cute! I love the snow village your children are creating. It reminds me of something I would have done when I was a child.

Hi Jules! I think you are right about our similar lives:) My boys are 6, just 3, and 14 months. It certainly is a crazy time figuring and juggling to meet the needs of all. We have been ice skating and watching my 3 year old and seeing your photos of Sunshine...too funny! I wish we could meet up for an ice skating adventure together!! I am very jealous of all your snow!! Must be soooo nice. We have been waiting and waiting and waiting. (still waiting) Huckley's/Forrest's overalls are so so dreamy...I wish I had a pair:) I am enjoying meeting your sweet family through your blog. Thank you for you comment on mine!

Oh my goodness Jules, those overalls are so so wonderful! Those color patterns are some of your very first knitting? We will have to talk about this...
So much to talk about I know! Soon I hope!
Love to you all! XO
