A five year old can never have enough pink, am I right? Well, this little ballet-loving girl still prefers pink to most everything. So what's a mama to do with September dance class just around the corner?
Earlier in the summer, I knit this Waltz of the Flowers with some yarn I found laying at the bottom of my very large yarn stash tote. Just enough for my dance-loving girl to have a warm cover-up of her own. Sunshine took a brief ballet class in the spring to see if signing up for something more committed was appropriate at her age...I've never been crazy about classes and structure for such a young child, but she wanted it so badly, so we tried...and she is hooked! We are currently weighing the options available to her this fall...our little town actually has three very respectable, and oh-so-different dance companies...
But really, maybe that is just an excuse to knit this sweet little sweater. You don't have to be a dancer to wear it with a skirt or pants, for that matter. The daisy stitch cuff detail was a fun challenge, and I'm not even sure if I got it right! But I was rather stumped with the I-cord edging all the way around...I must have attempted that one too many times before frogging it for awhile. Finally, I just did the daisy stitch along the hem as well ~ it works.
Besides, Sunshine loves it, as she loves anything I knit for her. Happily, I keep finding more beautiful things to try my needles at, and even happier yet, she likes to model them for me in the garden. Win-win, I'd say.
